Beijing yesterday said it would lower taxes, make it easier for property developers to obtain credit, and reduce the lock-up period for home sales, during which owners are unable to sell without paying stiff taxes. The measures come after repeated interest rate cuts and the announcement of a Rmb4,000bn ($585bn, £379bn, €407bn) economic stimulus package, all aimed at maintaining growth of at least 8 per cent.
Economists say reviving the property sector is vital to efforts to counter the current downturn, which has worsened in the past month, with factory output growth falling to the slowest pace on record.
The State Council, China's cabinet, said it would shorten to two years from five the period during which home owners are subject to a business tax if they resell their homes.

所谓“天公”，就是指我们所处的职场大环境了。外部供需旺盛，职场自然欣欣向荣；经济陷入低谷，职场必然如履薄冰。而时下这场席卷全球的金融风暴，给职场带来的岂止是薄冰，简直堪称雨夹雪，不时还可能落几颗冰雹子儿。
很多迹象显示，金融危机导致职场人对行业前景的信心降低。中国流量最大的招聘网站智联招聘最近对6000名受访者的调查显示，64.4%的职场人对所在行业的信心一般，14.5%的人甚至丧失了信心，只有15%的人对自己所在的行业有信心。
这一调查虽无法反映中国经济是否下行，却折射出职场人当下的普遍心态--悲观，焦虑，信心不足。往年每到冬天，大家都会收拾衣橱，把旧的冬衣捐出去或扔掉，去商场购置新的大衣和长靴。今年是个不折不扣的寒冬，很多职场人捏紧了手里的银子，盘算着是否可以削减冬衣预算，反正穿啥都是过一冬。
“让我们相互拥抱取暖，一起度过这个寒冷的冬天。” 作为金融危机下的职场代言人，智联招聘CEO刘浩发出了这样的宣言。事实上，他也是最有资本说这个话的人，因为即使受到金融危机的影响，网络招聘市场却依旧红火，为无数苦苦寻找的职场人输送着机会和希望。
金融危机给职场带来哪些变化？这是我与刘浩此番讨论的主题。毋庸置疑的是，高校应届毕业生就业形式不容乐观。根据智联招聘的统计，不少企业调整了校园招聘计划，比如原来花两三个月时间巡回20多所高校的招聘宣传攻势，现在可能一个月跑5所高校就搞定了。企业吝惜投入招聘资源，直接导致大学生就业机会的减少。事实上，2008年还有大批毕业生待业，2009年的毕业生大军又将汹涌而来，低端招聘市场的厮杀日趋激烈。对已有几年工作经验、有资本坐下来挑挑拣拣的职场人来说，应该感到非常庆幸了--我们并没有出生在一个最坏的年代，所以更应该充满信心面对职场。

招聘市场需要乐观，职场人更需要乐观。不少报道称互联网/IT行业进入“寒冬”，令很多IT从业者或有意入行者心中暗自打鼓。可是，互联网行业真的要冬眠了吗？作为互联网行业翘楚，刘浩再一次发扬他的乐观精神：“互联网行业现在还算不上寒冬，尤其是中国的互联网/IT公司有很强的抗打击能力。可能一些处于初创阶段、商业模式尚不清晰的早期公司会出问题，但对于那些经历过2000年至2003年互联网经济泡沫却依然存活下来的企业来说，生存不是难题，招聘计划还在继续。”

其次，要勤快打扫你的“办公室”，时常给你的简历“换水”。很多求职者把简历发在网上就不管了，坐等猎头过来敲门。事实上，只有经常更新的简历才能排在数据库的前列，在这个眼球经济的时代，位置越好，机会越多。

And Mr Menzies' argument for the discovery of America appears too far-fetched even for nationalist Chinese scholars.

Still, some in China take a more nuanced view. Local discussion of the Great Inventions often centres on why they found their greatest development in upstart Europe.

这个故事也出现在以前的课本中，
故事是这样的：在陕西有个放羊娃，有人问他，你为什么放羊？
他回答说：赚钱，娶媳妇，生孩子，放羊，娶媳妇，生孩子，放羊。。。。。。
每每老师讲到这个故事，
每每我们听到这个故事，
我们都在笑，我们心里也清楚那不是smile 而是laugh。
此时彼刻，当我开始找工作时，我忽然感觉到我们也是他，也是这个放羊娃。
我们为什么上学，为了找工作，赚钱，娶媳妇，生孩子，上学，找工作，赚钱，娶媳妇，生孩子，上学。。。。
其实仔细讽刺的想来，
我们和放羊娃生活的实质是一样的，只是形式不同而已。
不同的环境拥有不同的人生，
对于生活在这个大社会中的人们应该摒弃五十步笑百步的姿态，
勇敢的思考着向前奋斗。

The idea of using algae as a significant new source of fuel is moving rapidly from the science lab to large-scale production, to judge by a wave of big investments that have been made in the area in recent weeks.
The potential for using green slime to solve the energy crisis has been met with a new wave of enthusiasm from financial backers. However, this optimism has been tempered by the difficulties some producers have experienced in controlling very large growths of algae. Also, most industry analysts predict that it will still be some time before algae producers can demonstrate that their projects are commercially viable.
California-based Solazyme, the latest start-up company to attract cash, confirmed last week that it had raised $45.4m from a number of venture capitalists and other backers - part of a financing round that could eventually grow much larger.

The accident waiting to happen has happened. China, having helped propel global growth by tooling up and churning out cheap goods for much of the past decade, is crumpling. Official data released on Wednesday removes any doubt. Foreigners are investing and buying less: November foreign direct investment fell by a third from a year earlier while exports fell 2.2 per cent, the first year-on-year decline since February 2002. Deflation is even a possibility, with annual producer price inflation plunging to 2 per cent in November, less than one-third the October reading.

Now that bet has lost some of its lustre those “piggy-backing” funds are disappearing. Falling prices, meantime, are dismissed by bulls as “good” deflation; cheaper pork frees up more money for discretionary spending.
But persistent over-capacity sets the stage for a gloomier prognosis: bargain-priced goods, squeezed profit margins and more unemployment. Both fears come home to roost with the central bank, which has to stimulate demand without undermining the currency. Beijing has few means of reviving exports, but a decent amount of ammunition to blow on boosting domestic demand: it can afford to pump prime, order banks to lend and curtail capital outflows. Now that the accident has happened, speedy recovery hinges on urgent treatment.

rewarding. When I can wake up and watch the sun rise over the ocean, as I do most days, and know that I have an entire day ahead, uninterrup
ted, in which to write a few pages, take a walk with my dog, lie down in the afternoon for a long think (why does one think better in a horizontal
position?), read and listen to music, I am flooded with happiness.
I’m lonely only when I am overtired, when I have worked too long without a break, when from the time being I feel empty and need filling
up. And I am lonely sometimes when I come back home after a lecture trip, when I have seen a lot of people and talked a lot, and am full to the
brim with experience that needs to be sorted out.
Then for a little while the house feels huge and empty, and I wonder where my self is hiding. It has to be recaptured slowly by watering the
plants and perhaps,by looking again at each one as though it were a person.
It takes a while, as I watch the surf blowing up in fountains at the end of the field, but the moment comes when the world falls away, and the
self emerges again from the deep unconscious, bringing back all I have recently experienced to be explored and slowly understood, when I can
converse again with my hidden powers, and so grow, and so be renewed, till death do us part.

The Earthquake Effect
One hundred days on, there is still something dreamlike about the days that followed the 8.0-magnitude earthquake, which jolted Sichuan and triggered tremors in many parts of China on May 12. Every China TV network throw out their schedule to cover, at length, the earthquake. Every one of us, even the most levelheaded folk you know,choke up more than 10 times that days. Premier Wen Jiabao arrived at Wenchuan as soon as possible,organizing and deploying the earthquake relief without caring himself. All walks of life, from super stars to ones around us, try our best to help the rehabilitate of the earthquake-striken area: Chenglong donates RMB 10,000,000 at the first time; Jet Li quits acting for 1`year; the Lama read Buddhist ...ures to ward off disasters and bring good wishes to the victims; our university also organizes collections.
Facing the massive earthquake ,we chinese get together to overcome the disaster and to pray for the people in the earthquake-striken area,we hold a 3-days period of national mourning for victims of the earthquake,we also receive the respect of the foreigners.
I hold that our chinese showed the best of ourselves in the days after earthquake: a feeling and a compassion and openness to emotional ... that it had for too long kept in heart. At the same time, we realized the meaning of our lives, we showed the value of our race.
Premier Wen once wrote: Challenges make a nation much stronger. to the students of Beichuan Middle School. We believe that China is capable of emerging from the aftermath of the disaster and our country will be stronger.
